Boonsak Ponsana advances to meet Lee Chong Wei in Men’s Single final at Yonex Japan Open 2012
Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana sets up final clash with the top seeded Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia as he ended the winning streak of Hong Kong’s Hu Yun in Men’s Singles semi-final at the Yonex Japan Open 2012 on Saturday, September 22, at Tokyo, Japan.
The World Number 26 Ponsana, who participated in the championship as an un-seeded shuttler, showed his aggression on court by playing attacking badminton and remained successful in beating his higher ranked challenger Hu Yun who is currently World Number
16 in Men’s Singles main draw.
Ponsana was in good control of the game in opening set of the match but he could not stop his rival from taking the next game. However, he played good badminton when it mattered most and took the ending game to seal off victory in a tight fashion by taking
76 minutes.
The higher ranked Yun, on the other hand, could not show his class in the first set but remained dominant in the following game. Nevertheless, he remained unlucky in the deciding game and lost the match with a tight margin.
Thai shuttler started the opening game with an aggressive approach and he managed to remain ahead on board in opening half.
After the break, the impressive Ponsana continued his remarkable run without showing any mercy to Yun and grabbed the first set with a 21-17 score on the board.
In the second game, Ponsana struggled to maintain his rhythm as his opponent was in good flow this time.
The negative strokes and lack of finishing touch kept Ponsana trailing behind on the board and he lost the second game with a four-point deficit of 17-21.
In the decider, both shuttlers kept the huge crowd engaging by playing at the similar level and remained neck-to-neck in opening half.
After the break, they progressed in the similar fashion without sparing any chance for each other to dominate the pace.
However, it was Ponsana who controlled his nerves at the ending points and managed to win the set with a dramatic difference of 21-19.
Ponsana emerged as victorious against Yun in this epic semi-final in 76 minutes with a thrilling 21-17, 17-21 and 21-19 score on the board.
