Boonsak Ponsana outplays Takuma Ueda in Men’s Singles semi-final at Singapore Open – Badminton news
Thailand’s top player, Boonsak Ponsana, shows no sign of slowing down at international stage as he advanced into Men’s Singles final after defeating Japan’s Takuma Ueda in semi-final of Li Ning Singapore Open 2013 on Saturday, June 22, in Singapore.
The fifth seeded Ponsana, who has been earning glory for Thailand for 15 years, employed his extensive experience and remained successful in showing exit to Takuma in a 34-minute contest.
Ponsana was in complete command in the arena and he gave a severe lesson to his Japanese challenger. He finished up the battle in straight sets with a stunning 21-8 and 21-15 score on the board.
On the contrary, the un-seeded Takuma failed to play positive badminton. He could not repeat his tremendous performance against the lofty Ponsana and bowed down without posing even a meagre threat.
In the first game, Ponsana did not waste any time and occupied the driving seat by playing with wonderful speed. His impressive defence and spinning net shots enabled him to stay in command.
Meanwhile, Takuma failed to get any advantage from his jumping smashes as he could not find the right spots. He also failed to match the skills of his opponent at net and eventually remained far behind until the break.
In the concluding half of opening set, Ponsana did not lose his control at any stage. He executed straight-court smashes coupled with deceptive semi-smashes in cross-court areas that disturbed the flow of his rival. He stayed on track and bagged the first
game easily with a fabulous 21-8 score on the board.
In the following game, the lower ranked Takuma also made his presence felt by elevating his level of play. He increased his speed at net and managed to stay close to his opponent until the break.
However, the higher ranked Thai shuttler changed his tactics after the break and easily finished up the second set with a wonderful 21-15 score on the board.
In the title match, the impressive Ponsana will be up against Indonesia’s in-form player, Tommy Sugiarto, who won his semi-final encounter against Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Minh.
