Boonsak Ponsana tames Brice Leverdez to secure a pre quarter-final berth – Denmark Open Update
Another seat in pre quarter-finals of Yonex Denmark Open was occupied when Men’s Singles expert Boonsak Ponsana outshined Brice Leverdez in the opening round on October 17, 2012.
This 39-minute encounter was staged at local badminton arena of Odense, Denmark and both contenders entertained the audience while piling final figures of 21-12 and 21-15.
The Thai campaigner showed superior finishing skills and wrapped this showdown by prevailing in both sets.
Boonsak Ponsana, who was underrated earlier in this tournament, proved his worth with a splendid straight-set victory and alarmed all the contestants of this Premier Super Series.
Meanwhile, the opposing shuttler put a fluctuated performance which ultimately led him to an early exit.
The battle heated up straight away in the beginning when Boonsak started the beating from the very first stroke and kept his challenger at the lower end until last shot was played.
At first, he mounted pressure with 8-3 and then doubled the impact by registering a mountainous total of 11 before the interval.
After the mid-game break, he unleashed a series of power packed strokes and cornered the opposing shuttler.
Though, Brice strived hard to come out of his rival’s influence but he failed to match Boonsak’s skills.
The French shuttler made progress at decent pace in the third quarter of the set but he could not maintain this momentum. He gave up this futile chase after reading 12-21 score on the board.
Boonsak Ponsana made best out of this advantage in the following game and transformed his 1-0 lead into a straight-set win.
This time he established an unassailable lead by prevailing in ten consecutive rallies after 1-2 margin. This magnificent strike tipped the scale in his favour and he cruised to victory with great ease.
Later part of the game saw Brice putting an extra effort to cover the gap but he could not come out of this huge deficit.
Boonsak widened the gap with 17-5 and then reserved the right to be in the pre quarter-finals by registering 21-15 score.
However, he is subjected to a tough trial as World Number one Lee Chong Wei is waiting for him in next round.
