Boonsak Ponsana trounces Wenlong Zhou in pre-quarter-final contest at Badminton Asia Championships
Thailand’s experienced player Boonsak Ponsana found a good rhythm as he reached into the top-eight stage after beating Wenlong Zhou in Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final at Badminton Asia Championships 2012 in China, on Thursday, April 19.
Ponsana, who is 14th seed in Men’s Singles draw of Asia Championships, proved his superb skills and trounced the local shuttler in an inspiring fashion.
The higher ranked Thai shuttler played with precision and won the contest in two games by working well for 41 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Wenlong could not take any advantage from the support of his home fans and crashed out without taking any game from his higher ranked Thai opponent.
In the opening set, Ponsana played with superb precision and was in full control of the pace of rallies.
In the meanwhile, the young Chinese played with aggression but failed to take any advantage as he could not manipulate the loopholes of his opponent at any stage.
Until the one-minute interval, Ponsana was in complete command of the game as he took a comfortable lead.
After the break, Ponsana continued playing with precision and he manipulated all loopholes of his young opponent.
He employed his experience and made his Chinese rival moving around in the court and eventually took the game with a striking margin of 21-14.
In the second set, Wenlong tried to play positive badminton by taking avoiding hasty shots and remained close to his higher ranked rival in opening points.
However, Ponsana geared up his speed at net and created opportunities to execute powerful smashes in right areas.
Ponsana managed a tremendous lead by playing positive badminton. Until the break, the Thai shuttler was in strong position in the second set.
After the break, Wenlong geared up his speed at net but failed to place his shots in right areas and could not level the score in the concluding half.
In the meanwhile, Ponsana showed his positive skills in the match as he did not drop his speed and ended the set with a 21-15 score on the board.
Ponsana won this round-of-16 battle against Wenlong with a convincing score of 21-14 and 21-15.
