Boonsak Ponsana wins against Han Chou Chu in the second round of the Badminton Asian Championships
Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana won his men’s singles second round battle against Han Chou Chu of Chinese Taipei in the Badminton Asia Championships 2011, at Sichuan in China, on Wednesday, April 20.
The number three seed, Ponsana, had to work very hard to win a three-set fight of 53 minutes against Han Chou, who emerged as the winner in a three-set match against Adi Pratama of Indonesia in the first round of the tournament.
The world number six, Ponsana put up a great show in front of the packed indoor arena by playing an impressive game. Han Chou struggled to match the speed of the game but lost his control over rallies and threw away many points by making unforced errors.
The third seed remained focused in the game and won the opening set in just 15 minutes with a 21-14 score on the board.
In the second game of the match, Han Chou came in the court with a different plan. He changed his tactics and kept the bird low by playing an attacking game. This worked well for him and he established a good lead of 11-8 at the end of the first part of
the second set. After the break, Ponsana tried to narrow the difference but Han Chou played a better game and won the set 21-19, in 24 minutes.
In the final set, Ponsana showed the highlights of his skills. He kept the pace extremely high from the start of the game and took a 5-point lead at 11-6 in the opening half of the third set. After the one-minute break, Han Chou geared up his speed but his
opponent was quicker in picking the bird, and picked it quite early at the net.
Ponsana won the final set with a 21-13 margin in just 14 minutes without facing any considerable resistance from the opponent. The final score of this three-set match was, 21-14, 19-21 and 21-13.
In the pre-quarterfinal match, Ponsana will be up against either Sai Praneeth B. of India or Kazushi Yamada of Japan.
