When you don't know where or how they are getting in...

Any suggestions? The house is in a heavily wooded area.

  1. hmm well Boops has a garden right? so I figure from there, In my mummys house we had tonnes of ants mostly through the bottom of the door when the screen door was left open, but that was because of carelessness which I know Boops doesnt have, however this website said things like black pepper are good for getting rid of ants and it's nonlethal to them it just makes them exit something about the smell of it or taste Im not sure, its cheap and doesnt do any harm like some pesticides might do to pets (the pepper might make them a little sick if they eat it and wont have any effect on the ants if its all gone) but it also has some good AT HOME methods. Hope I helped Moon :]

  2. Red ants. (LOL)

Actually, there is no way even an exterminator can guarantee ridding a home of all ants in an area like that. They are simply a fact of life, and outnumber humans something like 100 to one. They squeeze thru the tiniest pin holes in walls and floors and windows. I think they seek moisture.

Just get the place sprayed at the key times suggested by an exterminator (once per season, I'd say) to keep them at bay. And you might try communicating your wishes somehow to all the birds in the area, as they peck around and snack on them all day long. Crunchy little critters...

Anytime I find a big black ant crawling around my bathroom, I let it know that it was on a suicide mission!

  3. There is a bug repellent chalk they sell @ the 99 cents store,

that really does a great job. Where ever you 'draw' a line with

this chalk, ants will not cross it. It is composed of boric acid

and talc (?) made into a chalk like stick.

Also, bay leaves crumbled and placed where they are getting in, (or where you tend to see them) and whole bay leaves placed in cabinets, changed every few months also works. Someone also had suggested just using plain old chalk, as they will not cross the line, but I have not tried this. Good Luck!

  4. I learned from an exterminator that if you see one little ant crawling around, don't think, "Oh, it's just one little ant.  I'll let it live."  That little ant is a "scout," and his colony sent him out to find food (I think they can even earn merit badges for it).  Seriously, if he finds food, he will go back and leave a trail of pheromones so all the ants can follow it back to the food.

I once saw an ant in my bathroom, and thought, "Oh, there's nothing in here for him to eat.  He'll search till he dies.  I'll just let him live."  Well, I keep a basket of magazines in the bathroom.  I had been reading one at the dining room table and had dropped a dollop of spaghetti sauce on it.  I'd wiped it off, but to an ant, it was a virtual feast.  A while later, I see a trail of ants heading to that little dollop inside the magazine pages.

  5. would need to know if you are dealing with carpenter ants...odorous house ants...little black ants...rove ants.  Knowing  what type ant may determine what is done to quickly get rid of them.

where you live shouldn't really matter on getting rid of them...every exterminator I know gives money back guarantee on getting rid of ant probelms
