Boot camp? ?

This is my first year of R.O.T.C [navy]

I am going to boot camp this year, any tips? How did you like it?

Should I be scared?

What is somethings they do?

just chillout and take it as it comes. Military life is not the same Just do what they tell you todo nothing more nothing less. You will find out it isnt that bad.

Doc pretty well said it all. It is about turning you away from being a civilian and into a well oiled machine.

I went through navy boot in '59 and later reuped in the Marine Corp. Their boot and advanced was plenty of fun.

In either there is lots of marching, exercise and book work. It's mostly a process of learning to trust the people you will be with and them trusting them. In combat that is a must.

Understand first that boot camp is designed to strip you of your old personality and thought processes and to teach you new -- the "Navy" way.  They'll try and stress you out.  Don't get stressed.  Just do as you are instructed and be quick about it.  At first it's all about shaking you up.  After a while, it will get a lot easier and then it becomes a matter of "attention to detail."

Should you be scared?  No.  It's all a head game.

The curriculum has changed since I went through.  But it will start with getting you processed in: taking your civilian clothes and issuing you the prescribed uniforms.  Getting you through medical and dental.  They'll even go so far as to teach you how to brush your teeth and for women, how to put on make-up...  And let us not forget the nasty underwear.  Old granny chonies.  Just have fun with it, and it'll be over before you know it.  And remember, there's a lot more to life in the Nav than boot camp.
