Question:

Boot from XP Disc Image?

Is it possible? My computer is being supremely owned by a virus right now. It's restricting my access to anti-virus related sites, it's redirecting me to random parked domains when I click google search results...

I just need to reinstall windows but now my disc drive is being screwy. It won't read any discs and I've tried everything to correct that problem.

As far as I know I can boot from USB with this computer, so I was wondering if I was to download an XP disc image (illegally, feel free to contact the authorities), would I be able to boot from it if it were on an external USB hard drive? And then could I use it to reinstall XP?

Let me know please, thanks!

  1. In Theory yes. Make sure to configure your Bios Settings to boot from USB first. Your Istallation should begin as long as you have a healthy image to boot from.
