When do you start addressing your superiors as "sir" and "ma'am" for bootcamp and/or ocs?

Who picks you up at the airport when you arrive and how are you supposed to address them?

Thanks

  1. in the Army you dont say yes sir or yes ma'am to drill sergeants...you say yes drill sergeant or no drill sergeant

  2. Not everyone arrives by plane. Many arrive by bus also. We were picked up by a white bus and once we were told to get off the bus is when we started to call then either sir or ma'am

  3. This depends on what Branch you have joined. When I went to Great Lakes, we got off the plane at OHare then hung around waiting for more recruits to arrive. There was really no one there to address yet. We were then instructed to go to a shuttle bus which drove us across Chicago to Great Lakes. Once our bus arrived through the gates a large CC jumped on and then the screaming began and thats when we began saying "Sir".

  4. As soon as you get there. We had several DS pick us up at the airport and of course they know you aren't going to be able to tell the difference between SSG and SFC so just call them Drill Sergeants. Don't direct any attention to yourself because they have a habit of remember who you are, when you actually are under them. Also it wouldn't hurt to study a little bit on the ranks.

If they have a brown hat on they are DS for sure.

Here is some info to help you out and good luck.
