  1. Riedell, SP Teri, Klingbeil. Graffs, Gams, Jacksons, Harlicks... Their all good boots. However, I've noticed that each manufactures boot fit differently for each person depending on the skaters feet type. If the Riedell boots fit you good there would be no reason to pursue another brand because they might not fit as well as the one you have now and vis-versa.

For your blades, It depends on what freestyle level your at and how advanced you want to become.  Vision blades are good blades for single and doubles jumps.

    Freestyle

This is the discipline in Figure Skating that most spectators are familiar with.  In Freestyle skating, or "Singles Freestyle" skating, a competitive skater performs a "program" that lasts anywhere from 1 to 4-1/2 minutes, is composed of elements such as jumps and spins, and is usually skated to music.

In freestyle competition, both "long" and "short" programs are skated.  The "short program" at each level has a very specific list of elements which must be performed, and the skater is marked on his/her performance of those elements.  Specific deductions are taken for missing or failed elements, and for added or repeated elements.  The "long program"  has no list of required elements, only a general set of guidelines for what should or should not be included.  Skaters are marked on both the quality of elements performed and the difficulty & content of the program.  Contrary to popular belief, there are no required deductions for falls in a long program, however the skater is given no credit for having executed or tried the maneuver which caused the fall."

    Dancing

"Ice Dancing is the discipline within skating that most emphasizes the "beauty" of the sport, rather than the athleticism.  Dance emphasizes the techniques of edgework, flow, and motion of 2 skaters together in rhythmic interpretation of music.  Ice Dancing has 2 main focus areas, the "Compulsory Dances", and the "Free Dances".

In compulsory dances, skaters are given a very specific pattern to follow.  This pattern is shown in the form of a drawing which specifies the skater's moves right down to which foot is doing what particular step during every single "beat" of the music.  Dancers are marked on their ability to skate the required pattern with demonstrated musical feeling.

In free dances, skaters get to make up their own "programs", within specified guidelines.  These programs must demonstrate basic dance elements and steps in a musical, but not "theatrical" way.  No jumps or spins are allowed, and dancers are required to stay close together throughout the course of the dance program.

The test structure for dance includes tests in compulsory dances, as well as free dances, and includes the following levels: Preliminary, pre-Bronze, Bronze, pre-Silver, Silver, pre-Gold, Gold, Junior International and Senior International.

Dance is one of the skating disciplines where age is no barrier. Many adults and senior adults nationwide enjoy this discipline for both its athletic value and its social aspects."

  2. Yes, Riedells are good boots.  So are SP Teri's.  Which one is better is a matter of personal preference.  The one that's better is the one that fits your feet the best.  There are many brands of skating boots and each skater likes a particular brand for different reasons, mostly being that they fit them well.

And yes, the MK Vision is a good freestyle blade.  The Vision used to be called the Vantage, which was essentially very close to the Phantom.  The Phantom was just "shiny-er."  :)  I've always wanted Phantoms!!

Are you asking the difference between the 2 disicplines in skating or the difference between the boots/blades for each?  I'd assume since you skate, you already know that under the big umbrella term of "figure skating," that includes freestyle and ice dance.....freestyle meaning jumping/spinning and dance being technical patterns with set steps set to music.   The difference between the boots is dance boots are usually cut lower in the back to allow for better toe point and more flexibility.  Dance blades are shorter than freestyle blades.  :)

  3. Riedell is a very good boot. I use Jackson's because Riedell''s are too small, but they are still very good. I've never actually heard of the Sp-terri.

    Good Luck!

  4. I do know that Sp-teris are good skates, but I think that you pay for the name when you purchase them. Riedell is a boot that is made for skaters with smaller feet. They have a very narrow boot, but they are good skates. My coach also wanted me to get phantoms, which are expensive. I got the same type of blade-same rocker and toe pick- for like 200 dollars less. The visions are nice blades.

Ice dancing doesn't have the jumping or spinning component of figure skating. It is basically just fancy foot work with a partner.

  5. i think its good.

wait till you need new boots 'till you start experimenting with others.

ice dancing is more like ballroom dancing, no jumps. it looks very interesting and its not exactly the same as ballroom dancing because the ice gives way for new moves and elements.

figure skating is jumps, spins, artistry, etc.
