Boozer signs with Bulls, Allen returns to Boston
A week after free agency opened, the major pieces of the puzzle are beginning to fall into place with two more big stars signing new deals.
Carlos Boozer became the latest star free agent to sign with a team on Wednesday night. The power forward agreed to a five-year $75-80million contract with the Chicago Bulls. The deal follows the announcements that Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will join the Miami Heat next year.
The Bulls are hoping Boozer will make them a more attractive proposition to LeBron James, who announces his decision on where he’s going to play live in TV tonight. The 28-year-old averaged 19.5 points and 11.2 rebounds last year with the Utah Jazz and has averaged 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game in his eight-year career.
The Bulls will pair Boozer with Joakim Noah in their frontcourt and with Derrick Rose leading the team at the point, Chicago becomes one of the best teams in the NBA.
The other piece to fall on Wednesday was Ray Allen, who re-signed with the Boston Celtics for two years. The deal keeps together the big three in Boston and gives them another chance at another title run after winning the NBA Finals in 2008 and finishing runners-up to the LA Lakers this year.
The Celtics will pay Allen $20million for the next two years and likely see the shooting guard retire in Celtics green.
