Les Girondins coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Francis-c13946 Gillot is hoping for an improved performance from Les marine et blanc following their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United in the Europa League
The club coach is looking to bounce back from a bad European night and has asked his players to step-up their game as Bordeaux prepare to take on Brest in the Ligue 1.
The 2008/2009 champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 were thrashed 3-0 at the hands of the Premier League outfit, ending their 17-game unbeaten streak. It was the first defeat for Bordeaux in six months since their 1-0 defeat against Caen on April 8 last season.
However, Francis Gillot is not much worried about all that and has urged his players to stay focused ahead of their Ligue 1 clash on Saturday.
While talking to reporters, the 52-year-old tactician stated that the defeat in Europa League was disappointing but it’s not the end of the world. People are talking like Bordeaux have lost half a dozen games and that annoys the coach.
“I enjoyed talking about it, even though certain people made out as if we had lost three or four games."
The former Sochaux coach admitted that his side performed below par on Thursday and they deserved to lose. Gillot said that the Magpies scored easy goals and Les Girondins’ defending was very poor.
Referring to Bordeaux game against Lyon last week, the coach said that his side need to play like they did against Les Gones in the previous Ligue 1 meeting if they want to avoid another humiliating defeat.
“All three goals came from crosses and our defending was rather passive. We certainly weren't as good defensively as we were against Lyon, when we were a lot better at the back, which helped us win the match.”
The 53-year-old is concerned about his side’s weak defence but is expecting a better performance from Bordeaux when they face Brest on Saturday.
"We did well going forward against Newcastle, but again, we just weren't able to put the ball in the back of the net, and that cost us."
Bordeaux travel to Stade Francis-Le Ble this Sunday to take on Stade Brestois 29.
