  1. You have to try the restuarant::

    Le CHAPON FIN

    5, rue de Montesquieu - 33000 BORDEAUX

    Centre ville

    +33 (0) 5 56 79 10 10 /  : +33 (0) 5 56 79 09 10

Can't miss the wine Tour (what Bordeaux is famous for). I really enjoyed the BORDEAUX ABOARD THE TRAMWAY tour. It's different and fun.

Great Casino action - Live entertainement, dinner, dancing.

Check out La Dame de Shanghai (Bassin à Flot No.1, Quai Armand Lalande, 05 57 10 20 50), a floating nightclub, bar and fusion French/Chinese restaurant, hip and fun.

Should the weather turn foul, take shelter in the Musée Arts Decoratifs’s tea room (39 rue Bouffard, 05 56 52 60 49, closed Sun), hidden in the lodge walls of an elegant townhouse.

    For shopping:

For elegance, head to the golden triangle of cours de l’Intendance, allées de Tourny and cours Clemenceau. Here you’ll find pâtisserie Baillardran, whose sticky canelés and macaroons are a treat. Chartrons is packed with antique dealers along rue Notre Dame, while St-Michel church has a flea market out front. Finally there’s rue Ste Catherine, with many original items to be found along its tributaries and squares.

    Have a great trip!

  2. Rue sainte Catherine

  3. Great advice from Wendy!

If you're there for the weekend you might also want to check out all the students bars at night on Place de la Victoire, and then head on to the clubs district on the Quai de Paludate (simply called "Les Quais" by us Bordelais), all the clubs are lined up on the same street.

Rue Ste-Catherine is the longest pedestrian street in Europe, and "Place des Quinconces" is the largest European plaza, on its West side there's a beautiful fountain with bronze horses, upon which "Monument aux Girondins" towers. Across the plaza, by the river (La Garonne), the view is also very nice, abandoned wharehouses were turned into fancy restaurants and shops. And don't forget to check out the Cathedral too, you can go on top of the "Tour Pey-Berland" just a few feet away from it, and enjoy the stunning view.

If you like steak you will be delighted. The local favorite is "Entrecôte à la Bordelaise", a grilled boneless rib steak (please DON'T order it well done) topped with sautéed shallots, to be served preferably with a nice red wine such as a Pessac-Léognan. I can also recommend Viandocks, a butcher's shop like restaurant where you pick your steak as if at the market and then they grill it for you. Oysters ("huîtres" in French) from nearby Bassin d'Archacon are also a must but summer is allegedly not the best season. At any rate if you go for them have an Entre-Deux-Mers (white wine) with them. They are sometimes served with "crépinette", a flat pork sausage (oysters with crépinettes is the oyster farmers' snack). Avoid the tourist restaurants in the St-Pierre neighborhood, they're OK but you can find much better ones for the same price.

If you want to visit some vineyards but don't want to get too far away from the city you can try some châteaux in Pessac, a suburb just a few miles away, where you can find prestigious estates such as Château Haut-Brion or Pape-Clément (reservation required).

Enjoy your trip, it is a fabulous city!!!!
