Border Patrol Question?

I recently made a round trip drive from Houston TX to San Diego CA and back again. During this trip I was questioned no less than 6 times about my citizenship at the border checkpoints. I started to become increasingly agitated that I was being questioned at every check point. I am African American BTW.

Anyways, it occurred to me that there are a lot of border patrol agents BETWEEN the States. So my question is this.

Why don't they take some of those BETWEEN the states agents and put them on the border where they are needed most? Better yet...why don't they send them to the local Home Depot and ask the more than two dozen people standing around if they are citizens?

Why am I getting harassed at every check point and I'm actually a United States Citizen?

PS..did I mention I had military stickers on my car?

Home land security is checking the border to find communist cubans. Many of them are blacks or mulattoes, so you might be suspicious.

You were driving close to the border and those checkpoints are precisely there because of the proximity with Mexico. I have gone through the same points so many times and they have never harassed me, on the contrary, they've been very respectful. The questions they ask are part of their job and you should cooperate without reservation.

How do you think they're going to find out if you are a citizen or not if they don't stop you. Just by your looks? That would be racism. They have to stop everyone so deal with it.

Having military stickers won't give you VIP treatment. If that were the case, don't you think many illegals would be driving their cars full of military stickers to pass through the border patrol. Come on! I'm sure you're smarter than that.

I don't know, but its ridiculous.  I live in So Cal and I'm not sure of the exact distance, but the border patrol is some miles from the Mexican border here, which makes no sense at all to me.  There are plenty of places to get lost between the border and the patrol.  That's apparent by the yellow signs on the six lane freeway telling you to watch for idiots running across the freeway, complete with drawings of people running across the road.

If you haven't already already, you should watch the movie Conspiracy with Val Kilmer, reminds me of your case. War vet goes to visit a spanish guy, but a guy who's not only an American, but another war vet, and finds out about some nutcases that take the 'border control' a little too seriously.

Anyway, that sounds like c**p, and even as a white guy, I wouldn't be surprised if they questioned me too, the way my luck is going. But you are exactly right, they should be ON THE BORDER. :)

Race has nothing to do with it. (Not sure why you felt the need to mention your ethnicity).

Anyway, personally, I believe that they just want to feel important and are trying to find things to stay busy with. I got harassed coming into the Mobile, AL airport and I was born and raised here. Even when I flew abroad to Australia they didn't give me such a hard time.

They are very unorganized with this whole "homeland security" c**p.

Hey - I need those guys at the Home Depot every now and then - and they just want to work - honest hard work -  I've had some nice tile work - irrigation lines put in - taking out stumps and clearing brush - helped me move three times - they always worked real hard and appreciated my kindness - unlike the boneheads I used to call in the Yellow Pages - just my own personal honest observations

However I agree with you - too many people guarding the states and not enough guarding the borders

Right down the street from my Home Depot are several crack houses - dealers - wonder if they're U.S. Citizens - that seems like a much better target than Home Depot -

They only pick on Americans.  They let their cousins from Mexico run free.  If you will notice most border patrol agents are Mexican.  That is the reason so many come across  the border undetected.
