Border v South Western Districts - CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition - Day 2 – Live Score and Update
South Western Districts 327 v Border 66 and 181 (f/o) (58.0 ov) - South Western Districts won by an innings and 80 runs
The three-day CSA Provincial Competition between Border and South Western Districts ended with a victory for the latter, as they beat Border by an innings and 80 runs, possibly handing them their biggest defeat ever.
The match that was played at Fort http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hare-c61468 University, Alice, was wrapped up on the penultimate day as Districts’ MN Piedt grabbed nine wickets to annihilated Borders’ batting line-up in both innings.
After bowling-out South Western Districts for 327, Border ended the day with one wicket down and 38 runs on the board.
V Makhaphela and KD Bennett resumed the play on Friday, but before they could get things running, the partnership hit a speed bump when with just 41 runs on the board it was broken on the wicket of Bennett (18), who fell after adding two runs to his overnight score.
BC de Wett, who had just come in, faced 16 deliveries but failed to score a run before losing his wicket, leaving his team stranded with 43 runs on the board.
Border were losing too many wickets, which was adding pressure on them and making it quite difficult for Makhaphela to launch an onslaught.
Hartslief, then hit jackpot by nabbing the wicket of Makhaphela, who crumbled after smashing 17 runs off 52 deliveries.
With GVJ Koopman countering the bowling offence, MN Piedt and W Hartslief wreaked havoc upon their rivals by taking seven and three wickets, preventing the remaining batsmen from scoring in double figures.
Border, were perforated on a meagre score of 66, as they failed to avoid a follow-on.
Batting again was a torturous event for Border, as they lost three wickets with only six runs on the board.
GVJ Koopman, was then the fourth wicket to fall, as he went back to the pavilion after scoring only seven runs. At the time of this wicket, Border were struggling with 14 runs on the board.
MJ Nqolo (2) and S de Kock (5) were disappointing as they failed to counter the bowlers. Finally, with 90 on the board, Makhaphela was the next victim as he fell after hammering 40 runs.
While AM Sodumo (61) and L Mbane (53) gave a big performance with the bat, it was still not good enough as Border crumbled after posting 181 runs on the board.
