Borderlands free to play on Steam this weekend – Video Games Update
It seems that Gearbox is trying to promote Borderlands 2 with the first game being free to download and play on Steam for the weekend.
Borderlands 2 is a Western themed science fiction first person shooter (FPS) with role playing game (RPG) elements set on the fictional planet of Pandora. The original Borderlands came out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on October 20, 2009 and was
received positively by fans and critics. Gearbox software, the developers of the game, has confirmed that Borderlands has sold over 6 million units so far. Impressive numbers, considering it was a brand new Intellectual Property (IP).
With over 6 million copies sold across the three platforms, it was only a matter of time before Gearbox announced a sequel to the hit game. Borderlands 2 was announced for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC on August 11, 2011. The sequel is also
being developed by Gearbox and will be published by the Take-Two Interactive (Take2).
Borderlands 2 became available on Valve’s digital distribution platform, Steam, for pre-order yesterday. In order to build some hype for the game, Steam has announced that their users can play the first game for free over the weekend. In addition to that,
there is a massive 75 percent discount on the first title including all the downloadable content (DLC) so gamers who enjoy playing the game over the weekend can own the Game of the Year version for only $7.49.
Great value for money as $7.49 gets you some of the best cell shaded visuals you’ve ever seen in a game and over 60 hours of game-play which includes online four player team based co-op. Apart from the Sale and the free to play over the weekend offer, Steam
is also offering 10 percent off the price of the second game for gamers who already own Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition.
Borderlands 2 is coming out on September 18, 2012 which is just a month before the release of the mega blockbuster shooter franchises like Halo 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Gearbox might have a great product but they should keep their expectations low
as there will be stiff competition in the market this fall.
