Borderlescott’s illustrious career coming to an end
It seems that Borderlescott’s career is coming to an end, but he has achieved a lot for his team and has entertained horseracing fans all over the globe throughout his career, which almost spans a decade.
The veteran runner first appeared onto the scene in June 2004 and he was a touch nervous in the first few races. Despite that, he learned with the passage of time and managed to bring up his maiden victory just a month after making his debut. It was a class-4
event and he was priced 11 to 2 in it.
He was prominent right from the start of the race and gained the lead over his opponents pretty early. No one was able to match him afterwards and he took the top spot with ease in the end. This was the only victory for him during that season and he had
to wait for the next year to prove his mettle.
In 2005, the Robin Bastiman’s trainee participated in quite a few events and made his team proud on numerous occasions. He enjoyed that season a lot and managed to win four races in the end. He has never won more events in one year than that and it is unlikely
for him to come anywhere close to this landmark in the future.
The next season also went really well for the 10-year-old gelding, as he managed to win a couple of more contests. However, he struggled to meet the expectations of his fans in 2007, as he went without any success that year. It was a testing time for him
and nothing worked in his favour during that period.
However, Compton Place’s son did not lose hope and kept on training extremely hard over the next couple of years. His hard work paid off in the end, as he claimed a couple of Group-1 victories in 2008 and 2009, which made his trainer proud.
Despite such solid performances, Borderlescott started struggling to some extent, as age was not on his side. He won a single race in 2010 and had to wait for a similar result for more than two years. Although, no one would have expected him to take the
top spot again, yet he surprised one and all with his most recent success in 2012. He has got nothing more to prove now and might head to retirement sooner rather than later.
