Question:

Borderlines of the Middle East?

I noticed something quite interesting, when I was looking at the map of the Middle East. I realized that the borderlines of most of the Arab countries are rectilinear as if someone put a ruler on the map drawing lines and said this is Iraq this is Syria etc...(in my opinion a formulated scheme)

Generally borderlines are curvilinear, showing that the country was disputed, fought over and than conquered.

I would like to know every ones opinion on this issue.

  1. its a fact that the borders where drawn up fairly recently by the super powers that controlled the region at that time (britain & france for the most part)

  2. most countries where in fact drawn....

so have the north african countries...

usually countries with curvy boundries have curves around rivers, mountains hills etc. like in europe etc.

most of the "new states" have been drawn

it was done to avoid wars over territories as much as possible... when you have a straight line it's easier to define the borders.

  3. these countries were once united by Islam which also became stronger by their unity so to weaken Islam they had to be divided and thanks to the British, French and Italian occupation these borders were created

  4. Yes, Its true .

    And we arabs knows it.

After the fall of the Ottoman empire, European countries start dividing the arab world just like cutting a cake.

each country took it share from the yummy cake.

    That's y its lines are rectilinear .

    What a Loss :'(

  5. The borders of the middle east are for the most part lines drawn by the former colonial powers of England and France, and are the source of much of the internecine conflict.

In some cases there is no point in changing the line, because the border is in some godforsaken place that placing it 50 miles to either side would make no difference.

Most muslims pay little attention to them, anyway.
