  1. 1)

    n - 6 = 2n - 14

    n - 2n = 6 - 14

    -n = -8

    n = -8/-1

    n = 8

    2)

    2m + 5 = m/5 - 4

    2m - m/5 = -5 - 4

    5(2m - m/5) = 5(-9)

    10m - m = -45

    9m = -45

    m = -45/9

    m = -5

    3)

    4x + 18 = x

    4x - x = -18

    3x = -18

    x = -18/3

    x = -6

    4)

    5m - 3 = 2m - 9

    5m - 2m = 3 - 9

    3m = -6

    m = -6/3

    m = -2

    5)

    15p + 4 = 5p

    15p - 5p = -4

    10p = -4

    p = -4/10 (-0.4)

    6)

    11m + 2 = 9m - 18

    11m - 9m = -2 - 18

    2m = -20

    m = -20/2

    m = -10

    7)

    7x - 2(x + 6) = -2

    7x - 2*x - 2*6 = -2

    7x - 2x - 12 = -2

    7x - 2x = -2 + 12

    5x = 10

    x = 10/5

    x = 2

    8)

    3x + 4(x - 2) = 7 + x

    3x + 4*x - 4*2 = 7 + x

    3x + 4x - 8 = 7 + x

    7x - x = 7 + 8

    6x = 15

    x = 15/6

    x = 5/2 (2.5)

    9)

    5(x - 3) = 10

    x - 3 = 10/5

    x - 3 = 2

    x = 2 + 3

    x = 5

    10)

    6(2x + 7) = 102

    2x + 7 = 102/6

    2x + 7 = 17

    2x = 17 - 7

    2x = 10

    x = 10/2

    x = 5

    11)

    3 - 4x = 5(x + 6)

    3 - 4x = 5*x + 5*6

    3 - 4x = 5x + 30

    -5x - 4x = -3 + 30

    -9x = 27

    x = 27/-9

    x = -3

    12)

    6(x + 2x + 1) = 12x

    3x + 1 = 12x/6

    3x + 1 = 2x

    3x - 2x = -1

    x = -1

    13)

    A + B = C

    A = C - B

    14)

    AX + B = C

    B = C - AX

  2. not that bored.  You do them

    get unknown on one side by itself and the numbers on other side

  3. 1. n-6       = 2n-14

       n-6-n     = 2n-14-n

                  x          = -1

    For #13 and #14, there's no number so there's NO WAY to solve the problems...sorry.

  4. Sounds like someone would rather type all this junk in than actually do their homework. Procrastination mixed with the easy way out at its finest. It'll bite you back when you go to take the test and find yourself without the Yahoo boards supporting you.

    I'll do ONE problem for you, and that'll be number 3 (since it's the closest to 3point1415). For all of these you want to use your magical algebra wand to combine all your variables (letters) to one side and everything else on the other. Basically "get x by itself on one side", as they say.

    3: 4x+18=x

      -4x       -4x   (subtract 4x from both sides)

      18=x-4x = -3x   (combining like terms [the x's])

          18=-3x     (divide both sides by -3)

          -6 = x
