Question:

Boring roles?

Whenever there is a play or a skit, I perform but I always get boring roles. My friends say that its because I look studious and thus boring. Help? Usually I get one or two lines. I speak good English. I have proven myself as a good actress according to most of my friends when I was randomly chosen to be the most explosive character in some tiny skit.

  1. A role is only as boring as you make it.

Say, for example, your one line is "I'm really bored right now there's nothing to do". A boring line, not much too it, you're obviously in a group and nobody is doing anything. But this character is potentially very interesting. They might be bored because they're a no good, do nothing leech who sits around all day. They could be an incredibly outgoing bubbly person who just met these people and wants them to take the hint. They could be the whiny one in the group who is always complaining. Any way you choose to interpret this character from the little you've been given it will affect your reading of the line.

The "boring" roles and the "small" roles are sometime the hardest to bring to life because you have to fill in so many blanks as the actor. Also, you've got stage time when you're not talking, you should be acting then too.
