The former World No. 1 tennis star feels that a rivalry between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will further strengthen the German League.
The nine-time Grand Slam winner has voiced his opinion about his favourite club, Bayern Munich, where he has previously served on the Economic Advisory Board for a decade. He feels that the Bundesliga is one of Europe’s top leagues,
and the growing rivalry between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund will add extra flavour into the competition.
Becker believes that the reigning German champions will become Bayern’s fierce rivals in the coming years. He mentioned that this rivalry is important from the club’s point of view as it will strengthen both sides, which eventually
will have significant impact on the German competition.
The former tennis star reckons that the Bundesliga can achieve greater heights if the competition is stiff, and there are no favourites until the penultimate match-day. He insisted that if clubs such as Schalke continue performing
in the manner they have done so far this season, than the competition would grow even stronger.
While talking to the sports website, Goal.com, the 44-year-old further elaborated:
“I really hope they will be. Bayern need steady competition. This would strengthen not only Munich, but the entire Bundesliga. In third place I see Schalke. If those three teams stay at eye level for several years, then this would
give German football an immense boost.”
Becker opined that the Borussians will definitely emerge as a powerful force which can take the Bundesliga by storm. He stressed that the Black-Yellows have importantly formed a self belief which is essential for any side to be
successful in the long run. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Switzerland-c3016 born star also reserved applause for Dortmund manager, Jurgen Klopp, who is responsible for the club’s amazing transformation in the past few years.
“As for Borussia Dortmund, I am now very confident that they can succeed in the long term. In Jurgen Klopp they have a good trainer, whom Dortmund want to keep for the next 10 years,” Becker concluded.
Dortmund are currently third in the league standings with 34 points, but a win on Sunday over Hamburg could bring them level on points with Bayern Munich.
