Boris Diaw planning to join French club JSA Bordeaux Basket if the NBA lockout disrupts next season
Charlotte Bobcats power forward Boris Diaw has indicated that he will be playing for his hometown French team JSA Bordeaux Basket if the NBA Lockout wipes out the 2011-2012 season.
The 29 year old Diaw, who is representing the French National Team in the EuroBasket 2011, released an official statement in this regard on Sunday after facing the first defeat in the tournament against Spain.
"If there is a lockout I will play in France with my hometown team in Bordeaux. For sure I would go ahead and play with them. For me the decision is easy." Boris said.
Boris Diaw also co-owns JSA Bordeaux Basket. Being the president of the team, Diaw knows the front office very well which makes it very easy for the NBA superstar to plan his future endeavours accordingly.
After failing to clinch a play-off berth in the Eastern Conference with Charlotte Bobcats, Boris discussed the possibility with the manager of JSA Bordeaux Basket to bring his massive experience to the floor for his hometown team.
Diaw was picked by the Atlanta Hawks with the 21st overall pick during the 2003 NBA Draft. Followed by two average seasons in the Hawks uniform, Boris was traded to the Phoenix Suns, where he earned the reputation of
a dynamic player. After having three and half successful years with the Suns, Boris Diaw brought his talents to Charlotte Bobcats where he posted the best performance of his career in the first year with the team.
Despite of missing a post-season trip in the last season, the 6 ft 8 inches Boris Diaw guided Bobcats to their first ever play-off berth in 2009-2010 followed with a 44-38 record. It was one of the best moments for the NBA superstar
and Charlotte Bobcats.
"It was a great accomplishment to make it for the first time in the history of the team. I made it to the postseason with Phoenix, but that was expected. In Charlotte there were other expectations and different goals -- the goal
in Charlotte was to make it to the playoffs so it felt good to reach that goal." Boris said.
The preseason games are scheduled to start on 9th October which means that the training camps should begin early in the month. However, considering the NBA owners and the players association are far from making an agreement
on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the prospect of a season loss, has started to become a reality.
For Boris Diaw though, a backup plan is already in place.
