Boris Johnson asks LOCOG to go transparent with ticket sales data – London Olympics 2012
The mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has recently asked the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games to make themselves completely transparent in the matter of ticket sales for the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games.
Johnson has asked the LOCOG to provide the public with a comprehensive account of the total amount of tickets that have been sold until this point. Not only that, the London 2012 organisers have also been urged to make available the details of the number
of tickets sold at each separate category of price range.
London mayor Johnson expressed himself on the matter in the following words, “What Locog say is that they don't want to release the details until the issuing of the tickets is complete. I can see a certain logic in that. But I certainly feel Londoners and
the whole country want to see fairness and transparency.”
On the other hand, a spokesperson from the LOCOG stated the stance of the London 2012 organizers by making the following comments, “We still have nearly four million Olympic and Paralympic tickets to sell and our priority is to get those into the hands of
sports fans. We are firmly committed to providing 75 per cent of the total number of Olympic tickets to the British public, and if we can deliver more than this, we will.”
The total number of the London 2012 Olympic tickets that have been sold to the people of the United Kingdom are 75 percent. However, there is speculation that in the blue riband events of the Olympic Games like the men’s 100 meter final, a decreased percentage
of tickets have been made open to the public of London. Out of a total of 74,000 seats, a total of 29,000 have been sold to the British public.
It is not only the 100-meter race event that is affected by a low percentage of tickets made available to the public, other popular events also have a limited number of seats. One such event is the London 2012 Olympic Games cycling event that is scheduled
to be held at the Velodrome.
