Boris Pashanski, Denis Zivkovic enter into the main draw – ARAD Challenger 2012
Boris Pashanski beats Oleksandr Gorovyts 6-2, 6-0
Serbia’s world number 342, Boris Pashanski, registered a one-sided victory over Oleksandr Gorovyts of Ukraine in the final qualifier of the ARAD Challenger in Romania on Monday. The Serbian needed just 53 minutes to down his opponent
in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.
Pashanski snatched a break in the very first game of the match and consolidated on it to grab a 2-0 lead. The Serbian hit another blow in the fifth and held his following serve to stretch his advantage to 5-1. Pashanski allowed
the Ukrainian to win only one more game, sealing it 6-2.
After winning the opener easily, Pashanski further raised the level of his game, as he did not drop even a single game in the second set, breaking Gorovyts three times and holding all of his own to win 6-0.
The Serbian gave a mixed performance on serve, as he hit only one ace and committed three double faults. The 5ft 11in tall kept his first serve percentage at 58 and his conversion rate was superb, winning amazingly 19 of the 21
points on them. The best part of his game was his second returns, converting 14 of the 16 of them into points.
Pashanski will take on USA’s Denis Zivkovic in the first round of the main draw.
Denis Zivkovic defeats Filip Havaj 7-5, 6-4
World number 348, Denis Zivkovic of USA, defeated Slovakia’s Filip Havaj in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 to reach the main draw.
Zivkovic and Havaj started off the contest in a steady manner, as they held their serve in the first 10 games to square off the score at 5-5. The American used his experience at that moment, claiming a breakthrough in the 11th
game and making the most of this advantage to close it 7-5.
In the second set, both players won their serve in the opening nine games to take the score to 5-4 in favour of Zivkovic. Serving to stay in the match at 4-5, Havaj could not handle the pressure and lost his serve, going down 4-6.
Zivkovic banged in three aces and made one double fault in the match, hitting 76 percent of the first deliveries and bagging 41 of the 56 points on them. On the other hand, Havaj was let down due to his poor serves, as he was unable
to hit any ace and committed four horrible double faults. The Slovakian managed to put in just 62 percent of the first deliveries and claim 33 of the 51 points on them.
