Boris Pashanski battles past Antonio Veic in the quarter-finals – Peugeot Tennis Cup 2012
Serbian veteran, Boris Pashanski, took the better of the higher ranked Croatian professional, Antonio Veic, in the quarter-finals of the Peugeot Tennis Cup 2012. He nudged up to clinch and gave his rival a straight set shocker
7-5, 6-1 on the eve of Friday.
The right-hander, Croatian native displayed a classic start in the opening set and nudged up to bring the score line to 1-0. However, it evened out at 1-1 in very next game by the Serbian. The two players held their serves until
the middle of the set. As the competition between the two sides was tough, the score line levelled down three times. Pashanski grabbed the opportunity and the cashed his opponent’s serve in the ninth game. The Croatian senior responded backs by breaking his
rival’s serve in the next game, bringing the scores to 5-5. After that point, the Serbian senior manifested his greater experience and despite of the pressure, pocketed the lead in the opening set by a 7-5 score line.
The 24-year-old Veic had a 62 percent initial serve accuracy, pocketing away 19 of 31 first and nine of 19 second delivery points. Pashanski thundered onto his contender with 55 percent initial serve, attaining 13 of 16 points
to secure his lead.
In the second set, the 24-year-old Croatian professional seemed completely powerless. He was unable to preserve his former lead and effortlessly bestowed the initial three games to his competitor. The right-hander Serbian participant
adopted a more aggressive game plan than before and dropped his serve only once in the fourth game. As the match moved towards its end, he preserved his determination, concluding the set with a bread stick.
Ranked 150th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Veic, secured 54 percent initial serve with just three of 14 first and five of 12 second delivery points. He secured the only serve break presented to him and his challenger
attained four of nine chances presented to him. The right-hander Serbian had a below average initial serve with five of six first and four of nine second delivery points.
