Boris Pashanski eases past Jan-Lennard Struff in quarter-finals – Copa Sevilla 2012
Serbian challenger, Boris Pashanski, took down Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets at the Copa Sevilla 2012 on Thursday. He nudged up a 6-4, 6-4 victor over the German to power into the semi-finals at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
Challenger Tour event taking place in Spain.
The 29-year-old showed brilliant abilities to overpower Struff in one hour and 25 minutes. After recording this success, Pashanski booked a spot in the final four at this outdoor clay court event.
Pashanski entered the Real Club de Tenis Betis in high spirits. He kept his opening serve and levelled the scores at 1-1. The Serb continued hitting massive forehands and after blocking the lone breakpoint he came across, Pashanski held his entire serves.
The Serb capitalised on one out of four break chances in the seventh game and clicked the opener with a 6-4 win.
Ranked 261st in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Pashanski kept momentum rolling in the following set. He maintained his intensity and bagged his entire serves without facing any real challenge. The Serb again availed one out
of four break opportunities and pulled out the victory with a 6-4 score line.
Overall, the Malta resident coughed more unforced errors and produced a slightly lower first serve share of 68 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 69 per cent. However, Pashanski impressively clinched 30 out of 38 points on it and finished the match with
61 points.
Next challenge for Pashanski is the second seed, Daniel Gimeno-Traver, in the semi-finals. The local seed required one hour and 15 minutes to triumph over his compatriot, Javier Marti, in straight sets. Gimeno-Traver cashed in three out of eight break chances
to formulate a 6-3, 6-2 score line.
The former world number five, Tommy Robredo will join Pashanski in the last four. He recorded a 7-6(4), 2-6, 1-0 retirement victory against Argentina’s Facundo Arguello in two hours. The sixth seed lost the second set but found his rhythm again in the decider.
After bagging his opening serve, Robredo was on verge of breaking the Argentinean serve when Arguello suffered the injury and was forced to retire.
