Slovakian Ivo Klec lost the match after an impressive start the match against Serbian Boris Pashanski in the last qualifying round of Slovak Open 2011. A thrilling three-setter was played at Bratislava, Slovakia on Sunday November
13th. The match lasted for two hours and twenty-minutes with a final triumph for Pashanski. Final score was 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(4) in favour of the Serb.
It was the second meeting between the two contenders and astonishingly inferior ranked Serb lead head-to-head score by 1-0. Serb had lost four matches of his last ten whilst his opponent had just won four so apparently lack of
form deprived the Slovak to clinch berth in the main round draws of the tournament.
Despite having bulk of experience of playing at hard-courts at Premier Court arena, Klec couldn’t help himself win this match and left his fans dejected. Slovak started-off the proceedings in delightful manner winning the first
set by breaking his rival’s serve and held his serve in the second game to take 2-0 lead.
Local broke again in fifth game to take 5-2 lead and won the next game to finish the first set in an emphatic fashion. Spectators were cheering every point won by their local favourite and first victory firmed their speculations
of their hot favourite’s victory.
Major turnaround in the second set came when score was levelled at 2-2, Pashanski broke his opponent’s serve but couldn’t hold on to his own in the next game; but then again he broke in the seventh game to take 4-3 lead. His opponent
couldn’t break his serve in the remaining games of the set and this lead to a remarkable comeback by the visitor.
It was just not the comeback that was interesting but also the different level of game displayed by the visitor. He played some outrageous shots including ‘through the legs’ shot that stunned Klec who didn’t anticipated a return
and stood still as the ball sail past him. A round of applause was received by the visitor on this shot.
Third set was terrific as both players started the set by sharing breaks with each other and then continued to hold their serves till the end of twelfth game; score was tied at 6-6 and no one moved an inch from their seats as a
nail-biting tie-breaker was at their disposal.
Double-fault in the very critical stage of the tie-breaker helped World No.430, Pashanski, to overpower World No. 259, Klec. He moves into the main round and squares-off against Maxime Teixeira.
