Borj Bouaririj of Algeria advances to quarterfinals: 2012 African Men’s Club Volleyball Championship
Borj Bouaririj of Algeria became the first team to qualify for the quarterfinals of 2012 African Men’s Club Volleyball Championship from Pool A on Tuesday.
The Algerian club team staged an eye-catching action in the first round matches and paved its way to the crucial final round of the tournament. In the last match of the preliminary round on Wednesday, Borj Bouaririj held off Nigeria’s Sun Shine for 3-1 (25-17,
24-26, 32-30, 25-21) victory.
The highly motivated Algerian team formulized a wining plan and perfectly executed it against Nigeria. Borj Bouaririj influenced the opponent with heavy strike of volleys and claimed opening set with a margin of eight points. After the loss of opening set,
Nigerian team threw everything in attack and gave a tough competition to Algeria. After many ups and downs, Nigeria closed second set with 2-point lead and levelled the game score. The next sets were also full of action as both teams used best of their tactics
to prove their endeavours. Nonetheless, Algerian team managed to overcome the rival side and bagged 3-1 victory.
Elsewhere, Libya’s Ahly Ben Ghazi defeated AS Voara of Maldives and moved to the quarter-finals. Libyan men seized 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19) victory in the match. The Maldivian team put up a great struggled to save the match but actually managed to
secure only one set in the match.
Libya made a strong opening in the match and pulled off success in the first two sets.  AS Voara hit back aggressively in third set and snatched one set from the resilient rival. However, the Libyan tigers crushed the opponent in fourth set with an exquisite
display of volleyball. Ahly Ben Ghazi clinched success in the important match and earned a ticket to the quarter-finals.
The 2012 African Men’s Club Volleyball Championship started off on Saturday, April 21 in Sousse, Tunisia. A total of 22 teams from all over the African Continent joined the action. The tournament was opened with the preliminary round-robin, which covered
its length in five days. At the end of fifth day, two top teams from each pool advanced to the quarter-finals. The quarter-finals will be followed by semi-finals and eventually two teams will meet in the final showdown of the tournament on Monday, April 30.
