Born To Sea will attempt to notch a victory in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby
Trainer John M. Oxx is hoping that Born To Sea will deliver in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh on 30th June, 2012, where he will take on a distance of 1 mile and 4 furlongs.
The runner recently competed at the Royal Ascot meet and finished fourth - a solid finish, but the bay colt can definitely improve from that performance.
The Christopher Tsui owned runner competed in the 1 mile Group 1 St. James's Palace Stakes (British Champions Series) on 19th June, 2012.
With rider, J. Murtagh, onboard, the duo performed well on the 1 mile track, but lacked the pace that winner, Most Improved, showed.
The trainer was satisfied with the way the three-year-old performed as he told the press:
"He's come out of Ascot very well and it's a big step up in distance, but we think it’s worth trying."
The son of Invincible Spirit, out of mare Urban Sea, began his career with an impressive victory in the The Irish Field Blenheim Stakes (Listed Race) at the Curragh on 10th September, 2011, where he finished 1 ½ length ahead of, Pearl In The Sand.
Akeed Mofeed, son of Dubawi, out of mare Wonder Why, holds an entry in the line-up, but it has not been confirmed if he will be running.
Referring to the Jaber Abdullah owned runner’s form, the trainer commented:
"Akeed Mofeed hasn't run this season and has had a few setbacks, but I'm happy with him now."
The three-year-old has prior experience at the Curragh, as he competed here in the Group 2 Juddmonte Beresford Stakes in September, 2011.
Paired with jockey, J. Murtagh, he finished as a runner-up, half-length behind winner, David Livingston.
Both these runners may have the skill to trump this race, but for that they will have to bring all they have to the table.
One of the reasons why all the runners will have to bring something extra to the table is Camelot – the Aidan O’Brien trained runner, who is aspiring to win the British Triple Crown for the first time since, 1970.
