Question:

Born in Germany, need birth time?

Hi! I was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, and moved to the US with my dad a while ago.

However, neither my birth certificate or "abstammungsurkunde" mention my birth time, which I've been trying to find out for a while now.

Is there anyone or anything I can contact, when not even my birth certificate doesn't mention it? Is it possible my birth time wasn't recorded at all?

I've already asked my dad, and he doesn't know my birth time, either.

Thanks for any of your ideas.

  1. You can ask the Standesamt for it. They might charge you .

Hey i was also born in Karlsruhe  and  moved  to the  USA  a  while  ago :)

  2. Generally birth times are not recorded except maybe in the hospital's files. I only know mine because the midwife wrote it with a biro on the piece of tape I got around my arm along with a couple of other facts (weight, length, s*x, name). Then my mother kept that ID tag and placed it into my baby picture album along with the hairs from my first haircut and one of my milk-teeth. I still have it.

I think your only chance is to either try to contact the hospital you were born in or to ask other relatives.

  3. It is not a big thing if you dont know the time of your birth, so dont worry. I was born at 12pm because my mother used to talk about how sleepy she was and it was at noon

  4. Birthtimes ARE recorded at the German registration office ("Standesamt"), as I know from the times when I wanted to have my horoscope made (and I think that's what your question is about). I'm German, and I live in Germany, but I also had problems obtaining that information, because it's usually required that you appear personally. This kind of information is considered "private data" (although officially nobody believes in astrology, but what the heck...).

There is one thing you can do:

Make a photocopy of your birth certificate and your ID card or whatever proof you have of your current U.S. residence, and send them to the Karlsruhe city authorities, requesting that they give you your exact time of birth.

I used www.telefonbuch.de to find out their address for you, it's:

    Stadtverwaltung Karlsruhe

    Marktplatz

    76133 Karlsruhe

    Germany

    Their phone number is +49-721 1 33 - 0

You can try a call at  German working hours on weekdays, that's 9 to 12 and 14 to 17 hrs GMT+1.

  5. ask your mom or contact the hospital you were born in ........or try the Rathause for the Kreis in which you were born...
