Question:

Born to sprint fast 'like a cheetah'?

What makes a sprinter(100 and 200m) run fast? I searched up some heights and with the exception of Bolt, alot of sprinters are about 5 10''. But with the new 6 5'' breakthrough, I've begun to wonder if being REALLY tall actually is a huge advantage. I looked up Asafa Powell next and saw he was 6 2''. So, WHATS THE DEAL WITH HEIGHT BEING RELATED TO SPRINTING?

Also a quick thing, if you're at a good running height and you're very muscular and athletic, will that automatically make you run considerably fast(as in high school level)? Or is most of it born into with all the genetic inheritance of fast limbs and muscle reflexes....?

Thanks, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I've been dying to know these two QUAGMIREs.

  1. Cheetahs never win...NYUK NYUK

  2. height and genetic reflex and agility are both quite crucial.

  3. Being tall can give you an advantage, for example you will have a bigger running stride which will make you faster than anyone else.

People know normally whether they are a sprinter or a long distance kind of runner normally by the way they are built.

Sprinter: Normally a sprinter is more bulky and smaller.

Long distance runner: Normally slim and a bit taller.

However in Usain Bolts case he is considered too tall altogether, however, because of how tall he is it may give him an advantage.

Lots of people from the carribean have a lot of fast twitch muscle fibres and is genetically inherited.

  4. Here's how it works.

    What determines speed?

*stride length* [how far you move on each step]

*stride speed* [how quick you take each step].

A rabbit runs fast, because its stride is massive (they leap), and a short dog looks funny running because its stride is small and it needs to compensate with a fast stride speed.

    What determines a Human's speed?

    1) Genetics.

There are two main types of muscles. Slow twitch. and fast twitch. Fast twitch react fast and are better for short term fast movements.

Slow twitch are more efficient, but slightly slower (big suprise), so they're great for long distance.

Your body contains different proportions of these muscles. Also, there are intermediate muscle types that seem to convert between the two, depending how you develop your muscles.

    2) POWER: Power is explosive force. It's releasing a lot of energy in short moments. There are certain ways to train that concentrate on power, endurance, or the third, i forget, I believe Max [one time lift]. Power creates long strides from the start of the step, as it jettisons you forward.

    3) STRENGTH: I dont know the definition of strength as well. I believe it is the follow through of your muscles. The maintaining of the power, and therefore the latter part of your step, keeping the step quick, whereas power makes it long.

    RUN FAST CHEETAH.

  5. run every day and grow tall. thats it

oh yeah when you are tall your legs are longer which means you cover more distance if you did one step ather than if your 2 feet tall and have to take three steps when i guy who is 6 ft. tall and has to take one step
