Borsheim on top on the first day at Gleneagles
One of the most prestigious golf tournaments of the year, the Johnnie Walker Championship has finally started. The best players in the world of golf have gathered at this auspicious stage to battle it out for the trophy and to also get selected for the Ryder
Cup Team.
This event is being hosted at the Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland. The tournament teed off on the 23rd of August and after four days of magnificent golf it is going to end on the 26th of August.
All the players are giving their level best at the tournament so that they can be on top of the leaderboard but in the end there can be only one champion. The first day was quite interesting as many players had a good round.
The list of players who performed exceptionally well on the first day also includes Knut Borsheim. After the first day, the 25-year-old was on the top of the leaderboard.
Borsheim carded two birdies on the front nine. There were no bogeys, double bogeys or eagles so these made his score two-under par after playing the first nine holes.
The back nine was even better for the player. He managed to card three more birdies which came on the tenth, fourteenth and eighteenth hole. These made his score three-under par on the back nine and his total score climbed up to five-under par.
Borsheim was tied on the first position with Brett Rumford. These two players were one stroke clear of the tied second position, which was occupied by Mark Foster, Maarten Lafeber, Paul Lawrie, Francesco Molinari and Thorbjorn Olesen.
At the end of the first day at Gleneagles, Borsheim said in an interview, “The season has been very new to me and you have to adapt, I guess. I've taken some time off. A lot of people just want you to play all the time, but I needed a break”.
“You have to organise yourself a whole lot better than just walking out on the golf course every day and just being fairly carefree. In 2010 I was just trying to be the best golfer I could be. Now that's all changed and I'm trying to be the best father I
can be,” he added.
