Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer has reached an agreement on his contract extension with the club.
It is believed that the German has agreed on an extension that will keep him at the club until 2014.
According to reports, Dortmund and Schmelzer had been in negotiations for some time and the club was desperate to hold on to the highly rated full back. His previous deal was going to expire in the summer of 2012. According to the German media, Dortmund
had been desperate to keep hold of the player who had been attracting interest from a host of European clubs during the January 2011 transfer window.
The likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan were rumoured to be monitoring his progress and were expected to table an offer for the young player after the end of the current campaign but it now seems that the young German will stay at the club.
The 23-year-old has not signed the extension yet but according to Sporting Director Michael Zorc, it is only a matter of time before the deal would be struck.
The defender is a born and bred Dortmund player and made his senior team debut in August 2008. Since then, the academy graduate has become an important part of the Borussia Dortmund starting eleven.
Currently, Dortmund are leading the Bundesliga standings and are very close to winning the crown.
Since his debut in 2008, Schmelzer has played 63 games for Borussia Dortmund and his great performances for the club prompted German national team coach Joachim Loew to hand him his national team debut in an international friendly against Italy recently.

Coach Jurgen Klopp was delighted at the news on the contract agreement and while talking to the media said, “Marcel is a great young defender and he has a long way to go in football. To know that he will stay at the club for a long time gives me and Dortmund
