Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic has expressed his disappointment on the club’s woeful performances in the UEFA Champions League this season. He admitted that it is not where they expected to be at this point in the competition and insisted that the results have surely not justified the team’s performances.
Die Borussen were defeated by Greek side Olympiacos in Piraeus 3-1 virtually finishing their dreams of qualification for the knock-out stage. The visitors levelled the scoring in the 26th minute through Polish international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-Lewandowski-c31255 but conceded two more goals to lose the match.
The Borussians now sit at the bottom of Group-F in the Champions League with only one point, having lost two of the three games played so far. Their only point of the campaign came against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 at home.
Subotic insisted that the results have surely not been what the team wanted. He claimed that his side has been massively unlucky in the competition this season and do not deserve to be at the bottom of the table. He urged his teammates to fight back and win the next two games to brighten the chances of qualification to the next round.
“The campaign has not started the way we wanted it to. Only one point from three games is not what we deserve, but here we stand and we have no choice but to learn from our mistakes and try to get results in the next two games. We have no choice but to fight,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The Serbian international was also upset with the 3-1 defeat at the hands of Olympiacos and added that his side did not take the opportunities well which is why they had to face defeat.
“We didn't make the best of it after we drew level, and it would have been a different game if we had scored first after the opening half-hour. We pressed a lot and had some good chances but we just couldn't score, so we were also unlucky,” he concluded.
Dortmund still have three games left in the group stage. They have to play Arsenal at the Emirates and have two home games against Olympiacos and Olympique Marseille.
