Borussia Dortmund shot stopper Roman Weidenfeller has stated that there is still room for improvement. He claimed that the team is working hard in pre-season training and are hoping to repeat the success achieved from last season.
Borussia Dortmund won their first Bundesliga title after 2001-02 last season. Jurgen Klopp’s side was the youngest in the League last year and to win the championship was a huge achievement. The club ended the campaign with 75
points and won an impressive 23 games from the 34 played, losing only five times.
Weidenfeller claimed that the team is determined to perform in the upcoming season. He stated that the players are currently training very hard in for the pre-season matches and would be surely well prepared before they play their
first match against Hamburg SV on August 5 at the Signal Iduna Park.
“The whole team have shown great character, with every player returning to training from holiday in good physical shape. We're still a young, ambitious side, albeit one that matured immensely last season of course,” he was quoted
as saying in an interview to Bundesliga.de.
The former FC Kaiserslautern player added that the Dortmund squad still has a lot of young players who need a bit of experience. He said that they have immense talent and ability but should still word hard to improve on their performances
as the competition will be tougher next season.
The shot stopper admitted that the whole atmosphere in training is really positive and that he is looking forward to a great start to the next campaign.
“With so many young players in the team, there's obviously still plenty of room for improvement. But our basic attitude is a positive one. Rather than seeking out weaknesses, we just work hard every day towards our own ends,” he
concluded.
Roman Weidenfeller has so far made 221 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund and was a prominent part of the side that won the league title last year. The 30-year old played 35 times in the season ended.
