Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp admits it was a dismal season in Europe this year
Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that the club has been in poor form in the UEFA Champions League this year and wants to make up for the elimination with a strong performance in the Bundesliga. The boss stated
that the performance against Olympique Marseille truly summed up the side’s campaign thus far and wants the team to comeback strongly.
Die Borussen were knocked out of the competition when they lost to Marseille with a 3-2 score line at the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday. The home side was leading 2-0 in the first-half but three strikes from the visitors in the
second period meant that Dortmund would not qualify for the next phase. But a win also would have been of no use as Greek side Olympiacos defeated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in their corresponding fixture.
Klopp claimed that the match against the French side more or less summed the team’s European journey this season. The manager insisted that Dortmund deserved to get the two goal lead early in the match but lapses in concentration
later in the match turned the tables.
“This match was emblematic of our entire Champions League campaign. We absolutely deserved to go 2-0 up, but then we conceded a goal from a cross that we should have shut down and Remy managed to get the jump on our defenders,”
he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166 tactician added that a 2-1 result would have been fair as his side played brilliantly. He admitted that the visitors did not have much to do in the match as the hosts were so dominant in possession.
“A 2-1 score line would have been a pretty fair reflection of the match as a whole but then Marseille, without having to push too hard, scored two more goals. It's hard to take, but that's the way we've played our whole Champions
League season,” he concluded.
Borussia Dortmund will next play hosts to FC Kaiserslautern at the Signal Iduna Park on Sunday to make sure they remain neck to neck with leaders Bayern Munich. The German champions are currently in second place with 30 points.
