Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan insists Schalke did not deserve to win the DFL-Supercup
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has insisted that Schalke did not deserve to win the DFL-Supercup title. The player claimed that his side’s performance was way better than the opponents and they also had the better
chances. He added that Die Knappen played a very defensive game and Dortmund had so many opportunities to win it.
Schalke defeated the Borussians in the Supercup clash played at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday. The clash ended in a 0-0 draw and Schalke were the better side in the penalties as they won the battle 4-3 with Kevin
Grosskreutz and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ivan-c17215 Perisic missing their respective penalties.
Gundogan, who was signed from FC Nurnberg this summer as a possible replacement to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nuri-Sahin-c28251 who left for Real Madrid, claimed that the home side’s victory was undeserved. He insisted that Schalke were always the second best side
on the pitch as Dortmund played some amazing football throughout the 90 minutes.
“I believe that Schalke's win is undeserved. I lost count of how many clear-cut opportunities we managed to pass up,” the midfielder was quoted as saying in an interview.
However, Die Borussen manager Jurgen Klopp was not happy with his side’s display in the clash. He stated that his side did not play a perfect game and there are surely some areas that need improvement before the season starts in
almost two week’s time.
The tactician applauded both sides on playing some brilliant football and making the clash a treat to watch for the fans.
“I am not unhappy. We knew beforehand that everything cannot be perfect. Despite that, I think that we have witnessed a superb game of football,” the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166 boss added.
Borussia Dortmund failed to add the second trophy in a week to their cabinet as they lost to the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Blues. Die Borussen had earlier won the LIGA total! Cup after defeating Hamburg 2-0 in the final.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will start their Bundesliga season against Hamburg SV at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on August 5.
