Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has played down comparisons with former club player Nuri Sahin, who joined Spanish giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid in this summer’s transfer window. The player insisted that there is no comparison with Sahin as he has his own style of play and character.
Gundogan joined Die Borussen from FC Nuremberg this summer for an undisclosed fee and signed a four-year contract. He played an influential role in Nuremberg’s successful season last term which saw them finish in an impressive sixth place in the Bundesliga.

However, Gundogan insisted that Sahin was a different player from him and that he has his own playing style. He added that at the end of the day, he wants to prove himself with his own identity and not with Sahin’s. But he admitted that he has the burden of filling the boots of Nuri Sahin which is itself a huge responsibility.
“Not really, to be honest. I'll just try to do my own thing. At the end of the day I'm Ilkay Gündogan, and I'll be looking to bring my own character and qualities into the team. If the odd comparison with Nuri still crops up anyway, it's not a problem for me,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The 20-year old hopes to perform in the UEFA Champions League next season and believes that defending the Bundesliga title is also on the back of Jurgen Klopp’s mind. He added that it is the team’s aim to perform well in all competitions in the next campaign so that the term could be deemed a successful one.
“Above all though we want to go into each and every match prepared to give it absolutely everything and take as much out of it as we can. That has to be our aim, and if we can achieve it, this will be a season we can all really look forward to,” he concluded.
