Borussia Dortmund’s Hans-Joachim Watzke insists Bundesliga is still priority- Bundesliga news
Borussia Dortmund General Manager Hans-Joachim Watzke has insisted that the club’s priority is still the Bundesliga. He claimed that Dortmund are fully focused on the league and have by no means given up on the title. He admitted
that the club would surely want to progress in Europe’s premier club competition but also want to finish in the top-four so that they can qualify for the Champions League again next year.
Die Borussen are currently third on the Bundesliga standings table with 16 points from the nine games played and have won five times in this campaign. They are six points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich and a point behind second-place
Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Borussians have not had a very good start to the Champions League campaign this season as they have garnered only one point from the two games played so far. They drew the game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 at home and lost to French side
Olympique Marseille.
Watzke claimed that the Bundesliga is still the priority for the club and they will not shift the focus as they also want to qualify for the Champions League next year. He insisted that the team will give its all to make sure they
perform well in the remaining group stage clashes so that they can progress to the knock-out stages of the competition.
“Whether we reach the knockout stages or the quarter-finals is negligible in terms of finances. There may be a few million for it, but that is not comparable with qualifying for the group stages again via the Bundesliga,” he was
quoted as saying in an interview.
The chief insisted that he is confident that his side will be able to make a strong comeback in the competition and will win their next match against Greek side Olympiakos. He remained confident of a determined performance and
is looking forward to the clash.
“Qualifying for the Champions League is far easier via the Bundesliga than it is by winning the Champions League. But I don't think we are going to crash out anyway,” he concluded.
