Newly recruited Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Ivan Perisic has vowed to fight for a place in the starting XI during the upcoming season. He was upbeat ahead of the new campaign and wanted to play a major role in helping Dortmund retain the title.
Perisic was talking in the wake of his team’s 3-0 win over the third tier side Sandhausen in a DFB Pokal game played on Saturday, July 30.
Perisic did not manage to get a place in the starting XI during that game and came only as a second half substitute when his team were already sitting in the driving seat. The youngster admitted the fact that it won’t be easy to break into the first team
almost immediately but was determined to prove his worth and make a name for himself in front of his manager, Jurgen Klopp.
When asked about his team’s commanding performance on Saturday, the 22-year-old stated, "We started off at 100 per cent and wanted the first goal to come early on. After that it was much easier for us. It's completely normal that every player wants to be
a starter. But ultimately the coach decides and we have to accept it. We have many games this season and I'm sure I'll get my chances. I will fight for my place and then we'll see."
Speaking about the Sandhausen game, he further added, "But I think that we played well against a very good team from the third division. Only after the first goal did it become easier. We created many more chances but did not take them."
The former Club Brugge player mentioned that he was looking forward to the start of the new season and wished to be a part of Klopp’s line-up for the opening game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hamburger-SV-c39485 on Friday, August 5 at Signal Iduna Park.
