Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels disappointed with his team’s lacklustre display in France – UCL News
Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has expressed disappointment at his team’s lacklustre display in France. The reigning German champions made a trip to France to take on Olympique Marseille in their second group stage game of the UEFA Champions League.
Les Phoceens registered a thumping 3-0 win at home to go top of Group F. Arsenal are second in the group followed by Dortmund, while Olympiacos sit bottom. The Borussians went into Wednesday’s game with one point from their previous Champions League game
against Arsenal. Marseille had defeated Olympiacos in the fixture.
Hummels believe that his side didn’t underperform and were unlucky to finish on the losing side. He admitted the fact that his side missed a number of chances especially during the second half, which the complexion of the match. He refrained from criticising
any individual for the loss and vowed to avenge the defeat in the reverse fixture.
While talking to a local website after the game, the player further enthused, "We can't believe what happened. The score is ridiculous because we had the better chances and we had 11 corners to their four. But we made three individual mistakes and they scored
three goals. It's really hard for us because we should have won but we are going home with zero points."
Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp also showed grievances at his team’s humiliating loss, urging the players to lift themselves up ahead of the Augsburg game. He held himself responsible for the terrible performance, hoping to bounce back immediately.
The centre back is of the belief that the Borussians never deserved to lose but reserved praise for the opponents, who took their chances unlike the Black Yellows. He believes that Mario Gotze was unlucky with his finishing; otherwise the whole scenario
would have been different.
Hummels is now confident of making a strong return in order to get back on the winning track and provide a title challenge to Bayern Munich.
