Borussia Dortmund’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roman-Weidenfeller-c31655 ignored for Germany’s upcoming international friendlies
Germany coach Joachim Low has ignored Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller for the country’s upcoming international friendlies. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Austria-c2844, and Low will announce the final squad at the end of this week.
Reports, though, have confirmed that Weidenfeller will not make it to the final roaster and the crown will be handed over to Hannover shot-stopper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ron-Robert-Zieler-c31761.
Low already has hinted at the selection of Germany’s number one keeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tim-Wiese-c35108. Both the players will surely be a part of the Germany squad while Zieler will be the third choice goalie for the two friendlies.
Weidenfeller was confident about his selection following an injury to Rene Adler. The Dortmund man seemed unhappy at the snub especially after putting in breakthrough performances the last season. The 31-year-old conceded only 14 goals throughout the 2010/11
campaign, allowing the Borussians to finish atop the league table.
Weidenfeller criticised his national team manager, Low, for not even considering his name. The goalie reckoned that the manager has some special criteria of selecting his players and he certainly doesn’t fall in that. The former Kaiserslautern player is
yet to make his debut for the German national side and this could have been the best opportunity with an injury to Adler.
The player expressed frustration at the step taken by Low but still was hopeful of wearing the country’s shirt some day. He concluded his anger by saying, "Maybe I need to cut my hair or something, I don't know. I always had a very evil phrase ready on the
tip of my tongue, but I think I would prefer just to keep it to myself.
“Maybe there will soon be some other young goalkeeper in a kids' camp somewhere who will be called up should anybody else miss out. Things are going really well here at Borussia Dortmund and of course playing for the national team would be the cherry on
top. But now, seeing things from a distance, I just have to laugh about it." He concluded.
Weidenfeller joined Dortmund in 2003 and has 221 league games to his name so far. The goalie has previously represented his country at the U-17 and U-21 levels.
