Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller has stated that he is satisfied with the team’s pre-season preparations and is confident of a great season ahead. He added that the players have put in a lot of hard work in training and the results will show when the season starts.
The Borussians recently added another feather to their cap as they won the LIGA total! Cup after defeated Hamburg 2-0 in the final. The German champions will now face DFB Pokal winners Schalke in the Supercup clash on Saturday.
Weidenfeller claimed that the pre-season has been great so far and was delighted on winning the LIGA total! Cup. He stated that the preparations have been great and was confident of a good campaign ahead.
“I think that we have taken the first steps and we have once again won a match. Now we want to see how things will go in the next few weeks,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former FC Kaiserslautern insisted that players have worked real hard in the training sessions and stated that the fitness will be seen in the next couple of weeks when the season begins.
“We have trained very hard for the last two or three weeks and now it is all about fine-tuning, which we will work on in the coming days,” he continued.
The goalkeeper admitted that winning the Supercup would a great achievement and insisted that the club will have to carry the form into the next season. He warned the side of complacency and admitted that it would be a difficult campaign as their will be heavy competition with many contenders for the Bundesliga title.
“We trained the last two days and did nothing out of the ordinary, we also did not give it absolutely everything in the LIGA Total! Cup. What is important is that we use our preparation to build-up for the whole season and not just one or two matches,” the shot stopper concluded.
Dortmund will play the Supercup clash against Schalke on the latter’s home ground, Veltins-Arena.
