Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund looking to go top of the league standings
The tightly contested Bundesliga will return to action on Friday with a local derby between FC Koln and Borussia Monchengladbach. The Foals would be looking forward to go top of the league standings with a win over the 11th placed Cologne.
Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, will be seen in action on Saturday against Schalke and a win for the Borussians will get them level on points with Gladbach, provided Lucien Favre’s men win on Friday.
As Bayern Munich won’t be playing before Sunday, the Borussia sides could enjoy a place atop the league table.
Last year's relegation contenders, Borussia Monchengladbach, have already revealed their desire of beating the Billy Goats to continue their four-match unbeaten run. The Foals manager, Lucien Favre, has expressed confidence in his side ahead of the important
game, regarding them ‘favourites’ despite being away from home.
Cologne coach, Stale Solbakken, has declined claims of being the underdogs and vowed to beat Gladbach to prove his critics wrong. He clearly stated that the Billy Goats won’t be an easy proposition for the Foals, and Favre’s men would have to work hard in
order to better his side.
Solbakken further added: "We are not scared of Gladbach. Of course they are in good form, but anything can happen in a derby and we are the home team."
The reigning German champions, Borussia Dortmund, also stand a chance to go top of the league table if they beat Schalke on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are fresh from a 2-1 defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Blues at home.
However, Schalke midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lewis-Holtby-c22175, opined that his side have a golden opportunity against the Borussians who would certainly be short on confidence after Tuesday’s defeat.
"Everybody is already really looking forward to it and you can see that in training. Everybody is talking about Dortmund and for me it is special - it is my first derby and I am really looking forward to it. Both sides are high up in the table and a win
could take either side to the top, and with over 80,000 watching, any football fan looks forward to this kind of thing." Holtby concluded.
