The Bundesliga side have reportedly confirmed their interest in signing Ligue 1’s top scorer Olivier Giroud from Montpellier.
Borussia Monchengladbach finished their Bundesliga campaign on a high after finishing fourth 4 points behind Schalke 04, sealing their qualification in the next season’s UEFA Champions league. The club is in the market for new
players as they look to strengthen their squad for the forthcoming European campaign.
Having already signed Peniel Mlapa from Hoffenheim, Monchengladbach are known to be in the market for a new striker after the departures of talented young players Marco Reus and Raul Bobadilla to Borussia Dortmund and Young Boys
respectively.
The Club’s sporting director is known to be an admirer of Olivier Giroud, French Ligue 1’s top scorer who scored a total of 25 goals in 43 appearances and fired his club to the title beating the likes of the mega rich PSG and Lyon.
The France International striker has attracted plenty of interest from major European clubs which include Bayern Munich and Arsenal. There has been plenty of speculation regarding the player’s future but it has been suggested that
the player favours a move to the North London giants.
Despite these rumours Max Eberl wants his club to try and sign the striker, but he is aware that Borussia Monchengladbach does not have the financial muscle possessed by the London side.
"We remain true to our policy that we do not throw our money out the window. The problem in our negotiations is that we are in competition with clubs like Arsenal and top clubs in Germany," Borussia Monchengladbach’s sporting director
is quoted as saying in an interview.
If the club fail to secure Giroud’s signature then they are most likely to go for FC Twente’s Luuk De Jong or Manchester City’s John Guidetti.
Following the turn in their fortunes after a relegation play-off win in 2010-2011 season, the club managed to secure their stay in the Bundesliga. Now they hope for a strong start to next season’s Bundesliga campaign and their
debut appearance in the UEFA Champions League. The club are well placed to win a trophy next season after a few disappointing seasons.
