The Foals will host the rejuvenated Reds in the semi-final of the German Cup in their bid to win well-deserved silverware this season.
Two of the top three teams in the Bundesliga will compete in the semi-final of the German Cup on Wednesday, March 21, at the Borussia-Park. The winning team will lock horns with Borussia Dortmund, who defeated Greuther Furth in
the first semi, in the final.
Borussia Monchengladbach
The Foals have been phenomenal this season and are expected to stand tall against an in-form Bayern side. Lucien Favre’s men are fresh from a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the league and are looking certain to book their ticket
to next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Gladbach have made rapid progress this term and it will not be a surprise if they get the better of Jupp Heynckes’ men on their home turf. The Borussia-Park outfit have not won this competition since 1994/95 and it will certainly
be a huge achievement if they are able to make it to the final.
One encouraging factor for the home side is their double over Bayern in the Bundesliga this season. Gladbach defeated the Bavarians in both home and away fixtures to stamp their authority in the league.
Bayern Munich
The Bavarian giants are currently second in the Bundesliga and have been in superb goal scoring form. If they maintain their recent form against the Foals then Favre’s men will find it extremely hard to cope with Bayern’s pressure
and attack.
Heynckes’ men have scored 20 goals in their last three outings in all competitions which definitely is the alarming factor for the hosts. The Reds will also be looking to avenge their two defeats to the same opposition this season
by dumping them out of the tournament.
This is a golden opportunity for the Munich giants to get one step closer to much-awaited silverware and strengthen their treble claim. Bayern last won this competition in 2009/10 beating Werder Bremen in the final.
