I have a nice surround sound system and am currently using two bose 201 series III speakers as my front left and right. thay serve theyre purpose rightfully but they are also 17 years old. So I was wondering if I should keep the bose speakers are replace them sith some new BOOKSHELF speakers. I stress bookshelf because I have special wall mounts made for bookshelf speakers and dont feel like taking them down. If you say I should replace them please say what brand I should buy and maybe even a link to a website or something. thanks.

  1. Try "Monitor Audio" speakers (wide better than bose) and "Velodyne" subwoofer.. sound will be amazing

  2. Sound is a rather subjective thing.  The more modern speakers have been designed to give the same sound quality as those older speakers, but in a smaller physical form.

I say it subjective because some people believe those big old speakers give a better, more natural base than the modern day, small format, speaker which requires electronic 'adjustment' of the lower frequencies to make up for the lack of cabinet size.

It comes down to how picky you are, how much space you have, what type of music you like etc.

Go test a few speaker systems.  Also try some good top quality headphones too.  I have a pair of Sennheiser HD595's that sound better than speakers costing thousands of dollars.

But thats my subjective opinion.  You need to create your own.

  3. take youre bose and thrown them out... problem solved

  4. My thought on this......if the 201s still work fine, move them to the rear for surround duty and buy some 301s for the front.
