  1. i rock the 321 @ home and trust me on this one... the neighbors hate me

  2. Have to agree with everyone's comments here. Don't buy Bose unless you don't have any space and can't make some for 5 speakers, a subwoofer and a receiver.

  3. I agree with agb (above) in that if you want the BEST system for the money, Bose is not the best option.  This is especially true for the Lifestyle system.  There is now an expansion module that allows for HDMI, but this is sold separately and is not automatically included in the Lifestyle unit itself.  The 321 package will try to artificially create a 5.1 effect, but nothing really compares to actually having surround speakers.  Bose really caters to people who want to be able to quickly plug in a system easily without really having to learn how or take the effort to build your own system.

Now, if you still want to go with Bose, the best value is probably the Accoustimass system.  This provides just the speakers and you get to pick your own receiver.  This WILL offer HDMI and will allow for a lot more expandability than the Lifestyle system.  Currently, I'm running the Accoustimass 15 speaker setup through and Onkyo receiver and I've been relatively happy with it.  Had I known more at the time of my purchase, however, I would have purchased the same Onkyo receiver, but gotten either Klipsch or Definitive Technology speakers instead of the Bose (more bang for the buck).

  4. I agree with the BOSE haters above.  Get a seperate speaker package and receiver.  A good package I recommend is the KEF 3000 and a Marantz SR 5002.

  5. I would never recommend that anyone get Bose anything (speakers, headphones, or even the Wave radio). I can't stand the sound of Bose. The bass is muddy, the midrange is missing, and the treble is hissy. And, Bose is overpriced. I talked with a guy at a stereo store why a certain "20% off everything" sale didn't include Bose or Mitsubishi. He said that those manufacturers don't want people to think they can get their products at a discount. They already have enough people willing to pay full price.

For about $600, you can get a Klipsch Quintet surround speaker system (front right and left, center, and rear right and left), plus a Klipsch SW-12 12-inch powered subwoofer (250 watts) from a factory-authorized Klipsch dealer for $600 plus shipping (and no tax) on eBay (buy it now). This will blow anything Bose has to offer right out the door. Add a Yamaha 70-watt per channel 5.1 surround sound receiver for another $200 (any local electronics store) and you'll have a system that kicks butt on anything in a comparable price range.

Nothing beats Klipsch for the price. If you listened to a side-by-side comparison with Bose, you would know what I mean.

  6. Bose = Buy Other Sound Equipment   BOSE is all marketing and 0 quality.  Bose would be the last Brand I would consider.  Klipsch makes about the best speakers money can buy in my opinion.  It all comes down what sounds best to you.  The reason People think Bose sounds so good is that in stores they have booths with arms set up so the surrounds are in the correct location and the other HTIB are just sitting on a shelf so they lose the surround effect.  The other reason people think Bose sounds good besides being brain washed by Bose is that usually Bose has $20,000 worth of electronics controlling the speakers.  Listen to some other brands before buying Bose.

  7. If you want good value for money and to listen to music then you DON'T want Bose.

You can do much better for the price from any number of manufacturers (Klipsch, Boston, PSB, Mirage, KEF, Infinity, Polk ....).

Bose use crappy speakers (paper cones, no tweeter) have poor midrange and their electronics use proprietary connectors and have limited connectivity. Avoid them like the plague.

You also must listen to speakers to know what you are getting. Read some objective reviews of good surround systems and you will never find a good word about Bose.
