I quit my job last week and was told that I needed to leave that day. it's normal in our industry to do this.

I have gotten multiple calls from multiple people who I supervised and also in office employees.... who are telling me that my manager is going to groups of employes while they are in thier weekly meetings and.... telling them I quit with NO notice, and that I have been calling staff and employes and if my calls are not welcomed they need to tell the senior management so they can nip it in the bud.

What can I do?

  1. You shouldn't have quit.....you should have talked to your boss's boss!  You also should not take everyone's word for things...people exaggerate and put their own interpretation on things and it might not be true.

Since you quit...you have nothing more to do with it.  The fact that you are not calling anyone is showing them it is lie.

If you were a supervisor you should know how to handle this and should have known the recourse to solve problems.  You seemed to have jumped the gun and quit !

  2. That is silly.  No boss should be bad mouthing any of her staff.  Even if you did give no notice.  Does your company have a human resources department.  I would make a complaint.  Tell them that you would like a little more professionalism from her end, and that you feel that bad mouthing you is not only making you look bad, it is setting a bad example for the rest of the staff and making it look like its okay to bad mouth people.  I am a supervisor as well, and I would never in a million years bad mouth a staff member to the rest of the team. ( I might vent about them to my supervisor though.)

  3. You just send them your notice in written form. They let you go that day... you mentioned that you were stressed at the time ...  you can still get a doctors note from the doctor who treated you against stress and ask him for a sick note for that time now and just send it to the company and address it to someone in higher management that your direct superior.. then they will believe the highest authority over this woman.. and those colleagues who were your friends whilst you worked there will not believe the gossip and will not mention anything about you to her. She too, is answerable to a higher authority at her workplace and if she creates slanderous stories.. she may find that her superiors will not think her trustworthy to keep her position. As long as it was clear that you were leaving.. there is no reason for her to tell anyone you left without a notice.. Send a formal written notice now anyhow and include the doctors sick note.. he can date it back to the time you left the company..

  4. If what he's saying is true--and it sounds like it is in part, as you admit that you didn't give notice--then I don't think you can do much of anything.  Unless it is your intention to do business with them in the future, cut all ties and don't list that supervisor as a reference.

  5. You don't work there anymore, so it's not your problem anymore.

This woman has severe issues, but she can only affect you if you allow her to.

Let it go.  It's over.  You don't work there anymore.
