Question:

Boss that hasn't grown up?

My supervisor called me on the carpet about a couple of things I did wrong. I admit I made the mistakes and I am taking action to correct them. The problem , is that she did not give constructive criticism and after the meeting to me acted like someone out of High School. She would not look at me, she was dismissive if I was asking a question to someone else and she literally stop speaking for 3-4 days. Is the normal for a manager to act, or is it just this person?

Honestly, had she not got back to a real person, I would have brought the Director in on it, it was really child like. Does anybody have any suggestions for next time (if it happens again) I think employers have pick of the crop and they are treating people like c**p b/c they are so easily replace. I have never had a supervisor like this who admits she does not have people skills. Hopefully, there are some supervisors or managers that can give some feedback on how to handle this type of person in the future.

  1. So she called you out for things you did wrong, and you got mad. Here's a tip: constructive criticism is something that belongs in high school. In high school, they want you to do well. At work, you don't get babied, you get told 'you screwed up, never s***w up again.'

And if she didn't want to talk to you, it's probably something to do with your attitude. I talk to people who I like, even when they s***w up. If she admits she has poor people skills (I think that's what you said, your grammar is a bit difficult to decipher) then she has poor people skills. Not everyone can be Miss Popularity.

If you're concerned about next time, don't let there be a next time. Employers do have the pick of the crop. And you know what? They do treat easily replaceable people like c**p. The only way to get around that is to stop being replaceable. Be good at your job. Do those little extra things to tidy up. Refill the coffee pot, etc. If you don't want to be Another Replaceable Nobody, it's not your manager's job to see that it happens.

  2. hi you need to deal with the issue now, don't let it fester, especially if your supervisor has control over future prospects including promotions, pay rises and bonus's, if you knew the supervisor as a friend before any of this happend can you speak to her in frank terms, otherwise call in your appointed human resources person, if you speak directly to your supervisors boss this can have the effect of alienating her further, but if thats the only course open to you it's better than doing nothing.

  3. She sounds immature, I had a boss like that too. Just be the bigger person and bite your tongue. As much as it sucks, she is still higher up than you, and it won't pay to argue with her.

If it gets really bad, you could file a complaint with her superior, but make sure you have a very good reason for doing it.
